Sandblasted Vases
Each of these vases are first hand blown. I look at each completed vase and determine the pattern that I wish to see realized. Through the application of protective resist tape and white glue, I protect portions of the vase and leave other portions exposed. The masked up vase is then carefully sandblasted to remove the correct amount of glass from the surface to expose the color below, and revealing the intended final pattern. With some of the vases, they may also be heated up and fire polished to return the sandblasted areas to their gloss colors by melting the the ridged glass left by the fine particles of sand. With other vases, this frosted look is part of the intended final pattern.
